Hard Drives Netbook at half price from mid-2009

Seagate, Western Digital and Hitachi work on new models of hard drives at low prices for netBook. According to sources in the Asian magazine DigiTimes, the price of hard drives could be reduced by half by the second half of 2009.

The hard disk is the most expensive component of economic ultra-portable, assemblers of such machines would effectively pressure on manufacturers of hard drives. While a processor, a slab LCD or battery costs fall 20 and $ 25, a hard drive costs 40 to 45 dollars. They are therefore a priority for assemblers Netbook.

Manufacturers of hard drives are reducing production costs by focusing on the controllers on the magnetic platters or heads reading / writing. Hope in any case it will not cutbacks. Hard disks and a single 80 GB could see the day first, followed by models 100 and 120 GB Finally it seems enough to put pressure on manufacturers to get great discounts.

Ericsson and Intel Collaborate on Notebook

Ericsson has announced that it is collaborating with Intel Corp. to ensure that Ericsson's Mobile Broadband Modules are interoperable with Intel Anti-Theft PC Protection Technology for notebooks to offer a secure and reliable anti-theft solution for mobile broadband users.

Through this collaboration between Ericsson and Intel, a theft management service residing in the network can send a message via SMS to the mobile broadband module inside the notebook, which securely transfers the message to Intel's Anti-Theft function inside the processor platform, which takes appropriate actions, such as completely locking the computer, making it unusable. When the notebook is located and recovered, an unlock message can be sent to the notebook that makes the data accessible again.

The solution builds on Ericsson's Mobile Broadband Modules, which are tightly integrated in and optimized for notebooks, and Intel's Anti-Theft PC Protection technology, which can lock a stolen or lost notebook. Intel Anti-Theft Technology provides an intelligent mechanism built into the platform that detects potential theft situations and responds according to IT policies. Anti-Theft PC Protection technology can be programmed to respond to repeated login failures and expiration of a timer that requires regularly scheduled connection to a central server.

When a loss or theft is detected, Intel Anti-Theft PC Protection technology can lock the laptop, rendering it useless, by blocking the boot process, and when working in conjunction with third-party encryption hardware or software can protect data by deleting cryptographic keys or similar essential code for decryption.

Internet Explorer 8 soon going to be pre-final

The second beta of Internet Explorer was unveiled in the United States in August 2008. Four months later, Microsoft is about to launch a pre-final (release candidate) browser. Indeed, interviewed by the magazine Eweek, Dean Hachamovitch, product manager at Micrososoft saying: "If I had to think of a cutline then I would say: 'developers, start your engines!".

Mr. Hachamovitch regretted that some elements present in Internet Explorer do not receive much promotion: "IE8 integrates these superb development tools directly into the browser. The development kit Internet Explorer 8 allows you to edit a site on the fly directly from the browser by activating or deactivating certain elements of its source code.

Also, with this new browser, the Redmond firm promises better support for web standards. Indeed, the product manager said: "Microsoft has performed tests in 2500 with the W3C validator to ensure good compatibility with CSS 2.1, and the RC1 we conduct new 1000".

Certainly, with a market share of 69.77%, Internet Explorer heavily dominates the browser market but the alternative products such Firefox, Opera, Safari or Chrome attract each day a little more users. IE8 change does it give? Not sure, because Ben Galbraith, one of the co-directors of the laboratory of the Mozilla developers Eweek explains that the big "disappointment is the JavaScript engine [...] Firefox, Safari, Chrome, each displays a [...] best JavaScript engine IE8 will have little improvement in terms of speed. "

Microsoft fills the critical flaw in Internet Explorer

The importance given to the security vulnerability affecting Internet Explorer was not feigned: breaking with its habits, Microsoft has conducted Wednesday evening at the publication of an emergency security patch for its browser, without waiting for the second Tuesday of each month, when he usually distributes its patches and updates.

Described as critical by all publishers security vulnerability that could allow remote code execution if a user with Internet Explorer a web page specifically designed, opening the door to injection of malware, the elevation of privilege and to take remote control of a computer.

The conditions for the operation of this vulnerability were published last December 10, just hours after the release of Windows patches of December. According to some publishers, more than ten thousand websites, mainly pornographic, were trapped in order to take advantage, as that was growing exploits and proof of concept on specialized sites.

All users of Internet Explorer are therefore invited to proceed without waiting to install this patch, whose distribution has already started via Windows Update.

Net Neutrality : Google responds to accusations

Earlier this week, the Wall Street Journal denouncing certain practices of Google and accused the Californian company to establish several partnerships with major U.S. cable operators jeopardizing the neutrality of the net. The newspaper said while Google tried to get privileged treatment for its Internet services.

A few days later Google tries to explain himself and the firm of Mountain View, in turn, accuses the Wall Street Journal to have confused a request for priority access threatening to hit the net neutrality and the establishment of shared cache servers.

Also, Richard Whitt, Media & Telecom adviser, said that caching data is a common practice used by ISPs and content publishers to improve the user experience. Mr. Whitt said that other companies such as Akamai or Amazon Cloudfront make use of this technique.

Thus, the deployment of cache servers for a website that requires a high bandwidth - such as YouTube - allows the user to improve the comfort of playing clips while optimizing Internet traffic for cable operators. Indeed, it is precisely the streaming sites such as YouTube - considered heavy users of bandwidth - are pointing the finger at the American ISP.

Apple Exploring Multi-Touch Skins

A new patent filing shows Apple exploring portable multi-touch skins that can be wrapped around three-dimensional objects, according to an AppleInsider report.

Apple notes that on notebooks touchpads and touch screens similar to the iPhone, the user moves one or more fingers on a two-dimensional surface to operate the device.

"However, for the operation of many devices, it is desirable, preferable or even necessary for the user to move his or her fingers over a three-dimensional surface," the filing states. "This is directed to a multi-touch skin placed along three dimensions of an object. A single multi-touch skin can be configured to span all three dimensions or two or more multi-touch skins can be used to span the three dimensions."

Apple says that one or more multi-touch skins can be permanently attached to an object or temporarily placed on the object for removal and application on a different object later on. When placed on an object, the skins would enable multi-touch inputs for that object that can be tracked to monitor the operation of the object.

Multi-touch skins could also include gestures for configuring and operating the objects, according to the filing, which would include implementing "any number of GUI interface objects and actions."

"This also relates to an improved multi-touch skin for measuring the magnitude (Z) of a touch," Apple explained. "In one example, the multi-touch skin has a corrugated surface. "This also relates to a multi-touch skin that can measure not only the magnitude (Z) of a touch, but also the force of the touch in one or more directions, i.e., the x, y and/or z directions. The four types of data can enable a broad vocabulary of actions and gestures."

Toshiba first to announce 512GB Solid State Drive

Toshiba Corp. on Wednesday became the industry’s first company to announce 512GB solid-state drive. In addition, the company said that its multi-level cell (MLC) NAND flash memory chips will enable it to bring a plethora of new high-capacity products in small form-factors.

In addition to the 2.5”, 512GB drive, the family of SSDs powered by 43nm chips also includes capacities of 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB, offered in 1.8” or 2.5” drive enclosures or as SSD fash modules. Toshiba declared 240MB/s sequential read speed and 200MB/s sequential write speed for the new family of solid state drives, which is very high performance compared to competing devices even based on more advanced single-level cell NAND flash. The drives also offer AES data encryption to prevent unauthorized data access.

For some reason, Toshiba declares 1 million hours mean time to failure (MTTF) for its new flash-based storage devices. 1 million hours is not only lower than 1.5 million hours mean time before failures (MTBF) declared by some manufacturers, but the term MTTF is often used for non-repairable products.

Toshiba and many market analysts expect SSDs to begin to gain significant traction in the market in 2009, growing to approximately 10% of the notebook market by 2010, and 25% of the notebook market by 2012. Toshiba expects the value/performance of its MLC NAND-based SSD line-up to help speed the acceptance of solid state storage.

Nvidia Launches GeForce 9400M Chipset,

Nvidia Corp. on Wednesday unveiled a core-logic for netbooks and nettops that is compatible with Intel Atom processor and which promises to substantially improve user experience on ultra low-cost personal computers (ULCPCs). Along with the GeForce 9400M chip, Nvidia also launched the so-called Ion platform to lighten the adoption of the new novelty by device makers. But Nvidia’s road to ULCPCs may be rocky.

Nvidia GeForce 9400M is a single-chip core-logic with DirectX 10-compatible GeForce 9-class graphics processor inside that also supports dual-channel DDR3 memory, PCI Express 2.0 x16 and x4 links, Serial ATA, USB, Gigabit Ethernet and so on. As all modern Nvidia GeForce integrated graphics processors, the novelty features hardware-accelerated high-definition video decoding and post-processing as well as supports various outputs, such as dual-link DVI-I, D-Sub, DisplayPort or HDMI.

Nvidia hopes that considerably better features and potentially higher performance of its core-logic will attract attention to its Ion platform. But while Nvidia is right about tangibly better feature-set and performance, power consumption of the GeForce 9400M (18W) is more than two times higher compared to Intel’s own platform (Intel 945GSE + ICH7-M consume 6W + 1.5W in maximum case scenario). Moreover, Nvidia’s GeForce 9400M requires expensive DDR3, whereas Intel’s platforms for Atom processors rely on affordable DDR2.

Toshiba, IBM, and AMD Develop World's

Toshiba Corporation, IBM , and AMD today announced that they have together developed a Static Random Access Memory (SRAM) cell that has an area of only 0.128 square micrometers (μm2), the world’s smallest functional SRAM cell that makes use of fin-shaped Field Effect Transistors (FinFETs).

The cell, developed with a high-k/metal gate (HKMG) material, offers advantages over planar-FET cells for future technology generations. SRAM cells are circuit components in most systems-level, large-scale integrated circuits such as microprocessors, and smaller SRAM cells can help provide smaller, faster processors that consume less power. The technology was announced on December 16 in a technical paper presented at the 2008 International Electron Devices Meeting in San Francisco, California.

To reduce the transistor size when SRAM cells are created using conventional planar transistors, IC manufacturers generally adjust properties by doping more impurities into the device area. However, this adjustment creates undesirable variability and deteriorates the SRAM stability. This issue is becoming critical, especially at the 22nm technology node and beyond. The use of FinFETs -- vertical transistors with fin-shaped undoped silicon channels -- is an alternative approach to allow SRAM cell size reduction with less characteristic variation.

Researchers from the three companies fabricated a highly scaled FinFET SRAM cell using HKMG. It is the smallest nonplanar-FET SRAM cell yet achieved: at 0.128μm2, the integrated cell is more than 50 percent smaller than the 0.274μm2 nonplanar-FET cell previously reported. To achieve this goal, the team optimized the processes, especially for depositing and removing materials, including HKMG from vertical surfaces of the non-planar FinFET structure.

Prisoner Sues Intel For $5 Billion

The magazine The Register reported that Matthew Robert Young, a prisoner living in the U.S. correctional institute of Snake River in Oregon, decided to drag Intel to court and seek $ 5 billion. The reason? It would be indirectly responsible for the Core 2 Duo technology and its process of virtualization. This is Steve Jobs himself - the CEO of Apple - which would have stolen a confidential document to be sold next to Intel.

In its official statement (PDF), Matthew Young says that in March 2003, he sent to Steve Jobs the concept of a computer that can resist viruses and hacking attempts through a multiprocessor technology. It would have called this concept Lancelot and hoped that Steve Jobs would help to develop its market or buy on Technology for $ 250 million.

Following the proposal, Steve Jobs would have shared the document with Intel without protest. "We do not know the exact nature and extent of the agreements between Mr. Jobs and Intel Corporation," says the testimony of Young, "but it is clear that Mr. Steve Jobs has arnaqué Intel Corporation does not disclose any information [...] and how it took the concept and patterns of microprocessor Dual Core / Core 2 Duo and its virtualization technology. Toshiba to use Cell processor for TV of the future

Japanese electronics giant Toshiba announced plans Thursday to use the super-fast Cell processor to power what it described as the "future of TV."

Toshiba, revealing the company's latest products and technologies at the annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) here, said the high-end televisions would be marketed in 2009.

"Actually Cell TV is not a TV," he explained.

"It's a set-top box," he said, with a 55-inch LED panel for the screen.

"The box is the future of TV and will be marketed in 2009," he said.

Ramirez said Cell TV has a "video recording capability like none other" and would be able to record six high-definition signals at once.

PC Buyers May Get Windows 7 Free after July

The Tech ARP web site nabbed a draft "Technical Guarantee Program" from Microsoft that implies anyone buying a PC from major vendors after July can receive a Windows 7 upgrade for free.

Microsoft wouldn't confirm, but didn't truly deny, the implied upgrade program when Microsoft watcher Mary Jo Foley asked. And an official release date, isn't set for Windows 7, though Foley hears third quarter 2009, and Microsoft will only officially say early 2010. So new PC buyers might want to hold off if they're geeked for a fixed-up Vista—depending on one's faith in Microsoft ship dates, of course.

Lenovo reportedly prepares for restructuring

Lenovo Group, the world's fourth largest maker of personal computers, is reportedly about to begin a restructuring platform aimed to increase the company's global presence. Earlier the company said that it was able to boost market share by acquiring smaller players, but after it failed to take over Gateway and Packard Bell, it became clear that such approach did not work.

The only big and successful acquisition of Lenovo in the recent years was IBM's PC business, which still mostly relies on corporate customers. Lenovo explains that because of this "over reliance", its global PC market share remains modest. The company did not manage to take over Gateway in the U.S. or Packard Bell in Europe and lost its No. 3 spot on the PC market to Acer Group, which commanded 12.6% of computer shipments in Q3 2008, according to Gartner market tracking company, just a percent point behind Dell (13.6%). Furthermore, Lenovo did not, at least openly, fight for Fujitsu-Siemens, when the joint-venture was about to break up in the recent months.

The world's top mobile phone maker Nokia said on Thursday it had ended production of its only mobile device using the U.S.-centered WiMax technology, another blow for the struggling wireless technology.

WiMax has been competing for the status of next generation mobile technology, but has largely lost the battle to Long-Term Evolution (LTE).

"We have ramped down the N810 WiMax Edition tablet. It has reached the end of its lifecycle," said a Nokia spokesman. Nokia unveiled the model only nine months ago, while usually even the most trendy models have a shelf life of well over a year.

Canada's Nortel Networks Corp has said LTE will be the most likely upgrade path for about 80 percent of the world's existing mobile phone providers, with others going for WiMax.

TiVo Googlizes the Television

TiVo, the dogged next-generation television company, appears to be striking a blow for youthful insouciance here at C.E.S. Roving bands of bathing-suit wearing teenagers are walking around wearing TiVo tattoos, carrying surfboards and messages that read "Channel surfing is dead."

The gimmick is designed to promote what seems at first like a fairly routine new feature: search. The redesigned search feature in TiVo Series 3 and TiVo HD boxes uses the overall popularity of shows to help people find the programs they are looking for. So, for example, if a user starts typing the letters HE into the redesigned search box on TiVo, the popular show Heroes will likely come up first. In the old alphabetical system, Heroes would have appeared well down the list—after reruns of Hee Haw.

The new search also integrates the Internet content TiVo has added to its HD boxes. So "Heroes" clips on YouTube and back episodes on Amazon Video on Demand are mixed into the search result as well.

This is why Tom Rogers, TiVo's chief executive, says channel surfing is a thing of the pas

Google developer site being used to distribute malware

Google's free code-hosting Web site for developers is being used to distribute malware, a security researcher said on Friday.

Google Code is a place where programmers can host projects and code. Along with the legitimate code are links to fake videos that direct users to download a missing codec, said Dave Marcus, director of security research for McAfee Avert Labs. The codecs turn out instead to be password-stealing Trojan horses and programs geared toward stealing financial information for identity fraud, he said.

"They're using it as a way to send out links or as a place to house their links and redirects because it's Google and obviously it gets highly ranked in the index," he said. "The bad guys look for services like this as a way to push out code."

A Google spokesman said the company has removed malware-distributing projects from Google Code and search results.

"Google works hard to protect our users from malware. Using Project Hosting on Google Code, or any Google product, to serve or host malware is a violation of our product policies," the spokesman said in a statement. "Using automated tools, we actively work to detect and remove sites that serve malware from our network. We have removed many of these projects from Google Code and from our search results. Additionally, we'll continue to explore new ways to identify and eliminate such content."

Apple patent for a camera hidden in the screen

As usual, many patent applications eventually landing in the hands of the general public. Companies like IBM, Microsoft or Apple make many requests, and even if they are not all agreed, they can track the evolution of certain jobs. This is particularly the case for Apple, which provides probably webcams hide behind screens next machines.

With the exception of the Mac Pro and the Mac Mini, all the computers in the firm at the apple, particularly laptops, have a webcam and integrated home located above the slab of the screen. The iSight, which currently has 2 megapixels, a device that was previously sold separately, but Apple decided to make it integrated as a selling point further.

According to the magazine PC Pro, version 3.2 of the Firefox browser
loaded a field for entering commands and the possibility of a specific
window for web applications.

Orders will be effected through a merger of direct extension Ubiquity,
issue of Mozilla Labs laboratory in August, directly in the address
bar. In addition to search engine by default, is truly hand navigation
which will be at the forefront in this next version of the browser.
Ubiquity allows you to perform several actions. Thus, one can imagine
that a command like "email Jean" will open a new tab, will connect to
your Gmail account, open the dialer, the fields will automatically
fill the subject with the title of the web page viewed as well as its
formatted link in the message body. Create an event on its online
calendar, add a bookmark to Delicious ... the possibilities are
numerous. Mike Connors, developer at Mozilla told PC Pro that as many
commands scheduled for Ubiquity as extensions for Firefox!

"We are trying to determine how it is possible to integrate the
functionality of Mozilla Labs [... ] Rather than optimize [the
browser] little by little, we are actually looking to be innovative.
Sometimes it takes trying to projects in advance without knowing if it
works, "says the developer.

In addition to a merger with Ubiquity, Firefox 3.2 is expected to take
an engine to completely customize the browser interface without having
to install a particular extension. Note that Prism, a Mozilla Labs
project, will also be incorporated into Firefox 3.2 with the
possibility of SSB (Site Specific Browser).

Microsoft Enterprise Search Goes

Twenty years ago, enterprise search meant sifting through office
filing cabinets to try to find the desired document. Nowadays,
increased competition and a challenging economic climate require that
businesses be able to locate an electronic version of a document or
pinpoint a vital piece of business information in an instant.
Imperatives like these help explain why industry analysts forecast
continued strong demand for enterprise search solutions.

Since Microsoft completed its acquisition of enterprise search
developer FAST Search & Transfer last April, the Microsoft Office
SharePoint Server team has been working closely with colleagues at
FAST to bring together the companies' respective search technologies.
The result combines FAST's deep search expertise with the widely used
platform technology of SharePoint Server.

Today at FASTforward'09 in Las Vegas, Microsoft provided a glimpse
into the fruits of their efforts: FAST Search for SharePoint, a new
search server that will add the high-end search capabilities of FAST
ESP to SharePoint. FAST Search for SharePoint will be available with
the release of the next version of Microsoft Office. The solution will
equip businesses with high-end search capabilities that will enhance
their efficiency and boost productivity.

Trend Micro empowers channel partners with Tech Lab

Trend Micro, Inc., a global leader in Internet content security, has
set up three technology support labs (Tech Labs), known as the "Trend
Micro Experience Labs" as part of their Affinity Partner program, to
help empower its channel partners in India. These labs are being set
up in New Delhi, Bangalore and Mumbai.

Says Mr. Amit Nath, Country Manager – India & SAARC, Trend Micro,
"Over the last few years, we observed that our channel community
partners do not have the requisite infrastructure either to
demonstrate our products to prospective customers or train their own
internal resources on Trend Micro products. While bigger partners
might be able to setup a lab, majority of our partners are so small
that they cannot afford to setup a lab on their own. During our
need-assessment meetings with various partners, we found that high
investment and running costs associated with implementing multiple
servers, license and dedicated manpower were key deterrent factors for
partners in setting up such Labs."

"We decided to setup Customer/Partner Trend Micro Experience Labs at
Mumbai, New Delhi and Bangalore for the use and benefit of our channel
community. These ready-to-use Tech Labs are equipped to let our
partners demonstrate the entire Trend Micro portfolio of products to
our prospective customers. For their internal training purposes, these
Labs provide enterprise class infrastructure for our partners to
experience the entire Trend Micro portfolio of products. We also
provide hands-on training where each participant gets his own
dedicated hardware for learning purpose," adds Mr. Nath.

Samsung Begins Mass Production of High-performance

amsung the world leader in advanced memory technology and the leading
producer of high-end graphics memory, announced today that it has
begun mass producing GDDR5 graphics memory using 50-nanometer class
process technology.

"Our early 2009 introduction of GDDR5 chips will help us to meet the
growing demand for higher performance graphics memory in PCs, graphic
cards and game consoles," said Mueez Deen, director, mobile and
graphics memory, Samsung Semiconductor, Inc. "Because GDDR5 is the
fastest and highest performing memory in the world, we're able to
improve the gaming experience with it across all platforms," he added.

Designed to support a maximum data transfer speed of 7.0Gbps (gigabits
per second), Samsung's GDDR5 will render more life-like (3D) imaging
with a maximum 28GB/s (gigabytes per second) bandwidth, which is more
than twice that of the previous fastest graphics memory bandwidth of
12.8GB/s for GDDR4. The ultra-fast processing speed is equivalent to
transferring nineteen 1.5GB DVD resolution movies in one second. The
high image processing speed of the GDDR5 also supports the latest data
formats (Blu-ray and full HD).

Unlike GDDR4, which processes data and images using the
strobe-and-clock technique, the processing speed of the GDDR5 is much
faster because GDDR5 operates with a free-running clock that does not
require the data read/write function to be synchronized to the
operations of the clock.

Microsoft 10,000 Eureka Moments and Counting

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office recently awarded Microsoft Corp.
its 10,000th U.S. patent. The invention, U.S. Patent No. 7,479,950,
applies to surface computing technology and outlines how users can
place real objects — anything from cell phones to their own fingers —
on the computer's tablelike display and the computer will
automatically identify the objects and track their position,
orientation and motion. This allows the objects to be associated with
data or media, like a specific collection of music or photos.

Curtis Wong, one of four co-inventors of the patent from Microsoft
Research, explains that there are myriad uses for the patented
technology in conjunction with Microsoft Surface computers or other
touch-screen applications. For example, a group of photos from a
particular vacation could be associated with a souvenir from the trip.
Placing the souvenir on a Microsoft Surface computer might initiate a
slide show. Rotating the souvenir accelerates or slows the playback
speed. Placing it on another area of the screen would "spill" the
photos onto the Surface display, allowing the user to edit, delete or
add photos to that collection with simple gestures.

Or a user might choose to associate a collection of party music with a
matchbox from a favorite music club. Placing the matchbox on Microsoft
Surface would cause all the album covers within that party mix to jump
out, so the user can rearrange the playlist. From there, she could
place the matchbox on a play button to hear the music, and then rotate
the matchbox to scroll through the other albums. She could also add
music to that playlist by touching related albums and "flicking" them
into the matchbox.

transcoding, physics calculations, and high-definition video playback.

Microsoft To Offer Free Windows 7 Upgrade

The Microsoft Windows 7 Upgrade Program

Microsoft issued a draft of the Windows 7 Technical Guarantee Program
to their OEM partners on December 10, giving them exactly one month to
provide their feedback before Microsoft finalizes the program details.
We managed to obtain a copy of the draft, which tentatively refers to
the program as the "Windows 7 Upgrade Program". Let's take a look at
the key points outlined in the draft.

Interim Name

The official name for the program has yet to be determined. Microsoft
is using "Windows 7 Upgrade Program" as the place-holder for the
Windows Vista to Windows 7 upgrade program, which was also known as
the Windows 7 Technical Guarantee Program. Microsoft will announce the

YouTube starts the download and selling

Between negotiations with the majors, teams develop new YouTube
features. Some of the content offered on the platform to share videos
from Google are now available to download for later offline. YouTube
joins the growing list of online services available from Google ...
offline.

The possibility to involve in its videos a Creative Commons license
authorizing the dissemination of creations under certain
circumstances, and offer them for download, made its appearance are
still reserved for certain partners picked. These functions are
offered by the challenger Vimeo for several months. The downloaded
videos are distributed by YouTube to MP4 format (H.264 video and AAC
audio) without digital lock (DRM).

A function to market the videos for an amount that determines the
seller is also being tested, but the shares held by Google have been
specified. But certainly it is the latter in a new way to monetize
their service so far unprofitable. The sale goes through the
centralized payment service Google Checkout, PayPal equivalent. Asked
about unofficial software that allow long to retrieve the content from
YouTube, a representative of the Internet giant is content to argue
that downloading a video other than through the dedicated function is
a violation of the terms of service . Download video on YouTube
However, it says that Google engineers are actively working on a
solution, an effort that has so far shown no avail for most streaming
services.

Available from France but for now only in English, this feature is
accessible through a link on this video Download videos from some
major U.S. universities such as Stanford or the UCLA. A trick proposed
by the developers of Google itself yet provides download MP4 format
almost any YouTube video, and since April 2008, not counting the many
unofficial programs that offer this possibility.

MySpace Quietly Launches Site-Wide Image Search

MySpace has introduced a new image search feature to its integrated
search engine, allowing users to quickly search through photos shared
by their friends and the MySpace community. While MySpace did not
officially announce the new feature, the company has confirmed that it
recently went live, and indexes around 3 billion of the site's photos.
The addition reflects MySpace's apparently increasing focus on its
search engine, which also includes the site's video and music content
along with a Google-powered web search. Users are given the option to
search through photos their friends have shared, those with viewing
rights set to 'public' by other MySpace users, or images on
Photobucket, which was acquired by MySpace's parent company in 2007.

Users are given the option to search through photos their friends have
shared, those with viewing rights set to 'public' by other MySpace
users, or images on Photobucket, which was acquired by MySpace's
parent company in 2007. MySpace says that all results are shown
through a "social lense", which means that the engine pays attention
to keywords in your profile and who your friends are to try to
generate the most relevant results.

It's a neat feature and one that I'm sure will improve over time, but
in its current form MySpace Image Search is a little weird. While a
search for "San Francisco" on Flickr or Google Image Search will
generally yield city-scapes or famous landmarks, most of the results
on MySpace feature people that you don't know, with the famous
landmarks in the background. Searches for celebrities like 'Lil Wayne'
tend to fare better, but you'll still wind up with a number of MySpace
users who have photographed themselves dressed up as the person you
searched for. Like I said, it's a little weird - though it can come in
handy when you're only concerned with looking through your friends'
photos.

IBM Unveils New Database Software to Help

IBM today unveiled new database software to help companies make
decisions more intelligently and maximize sales opportunities while
reducing expenses.

With new Informix database software, global companies, for the first
time, can both warehouse their data and conduct ultra fast online
transactions with a simplified software platform. The combination of
the two capabilities in one offering can help deliver new results and
insights to grow businesses and lower costs by making it easier to use
existing Informix infrastructure to help clients work as much as 50%
more efficiently.

To effectively compete in today's challenging global economy,
companies are now recognizing the need to use information more
effectively. Right now, 85% of CIOs do not believe their information
is currently well managed and shared across the entire business. In
addition, most companies lack a cohesive strategy to get the most
value from their information.

"On a daily basis, our organization needs to extract patient data to
track outstanding claims that are long overdue. It used to take us
months to collect information that we are now able to retrieve in a
matter of minutes," said Dan Contaldi, vice president, Information
Technology, Women's Health. "Now, this technology allows more time for
our central billing staff to focus on the business rather than
spending hours sifting through the maze of outstanding claims. We see
the addition of the Informix warehousing capabilities providing a
complete and cost efficient solution."
