Don't worry, wet iPod doesn’t necessarily mean a dead iPod. Due to its sturdiness and tight construction liquids have little space to enter the casing. Try making it dry by shaking out the water from the headphone, clickwheel and dock connector areas. For doing this the best way to do this is by opening it. But be careful because this will void the warranty.

For most electronic devices, it is when electricity flows through wet components that damage occurs. It is not so much water damage electronics, but soon that may happen if you drive them when they are wet. Hold down until you know that they are totally dry.Once you’ve gotten the water you can see out of the way, keep your iPod off and leave it somewhere warm to dry for a few days. Don’t use fabric towels or clothes because those charge up with static electricity and can produce sparks.Leave it there for at least 3 days, longer if it’s really saturated.

Re: What to do when Ipod get wet
First of all open up the Ipod and try to Wipe them off gently with special electronics alcohol and give a few minutes to fully evaporate. If you want to try a more immediate approach, try blowing a hair dryer, on low power, on the wet iPod about a day after it got wet. One way to totally dry out your iPod is the Rice Method. Although it is not guaranteed to work, it's well worth a shot.
