Unable to retrieve MSN address book
Hi guys,

I need urget help here, lost Pidgim used as a messenger. i can't login in to my MSN account, I'm getting the following error:

#8080: Unable to retrieve MSN address book

I don't know how to resolve his issue, please do a help.

The reason is that Microsoft servers are leaving for any reason to use the protocol MSN15 (the current). Have started using the previous protocol (MSN14, which is in the following package msn-pecan).

Pidgin by default compiled to use the latest MSN protocol that is 15 and not 14, why can not connect.

For those who use any distro based on debian install it easily

$ Sudo apt-get install msn-pecan

For those who use Slackware, Gentoo or you can download the source here and compile: http://code.google.com/p/msn-pecan/

msn-pecan works: just install it and change, from pidgin account dialog, the protocol from 'msn' to 'wlm'.

After the Internet search this is a BUG (http://developer.pidgin.im/ticket/8080), many people have this problem. try the solution mentioned above.
